Differential Pressure Transmitters
Ensuring Consistency and Accuracy
in Every Pressure Reading
Differential Pressure Transmitters (DPTs) measure the difference in pressure between two points within a system. This differential measurement is often used to monitor and control processes in various industries, including HVAC, oil and gas, water treatment, and manufacturing. By providing accurate readings of pressure differences, DPTs help ensure optimal performance, safety, and efficiency in various applications such as flow measurement, filter monitoring, and tank level control.
DPTs are typically used in systems where slight pressure differences can significantly impact performance. For example, in HVAC systems, DPTs monitor airflow by measuring the pressure difference across filters or ducting to ensure proper ventilation. In industrial settings, DPTs monitor flow in pipes, ensuring that the system operates efficiently and that blockages or leaks are promptly detected. They are also critical in process control, where pressure variations affect product quality or system safety.
Over time, DPTs can encounter several issues that compromise their performance. Calibration drift, environmental factors like temperature and humidity, or mechanical wear can lead to inaccurate readings. Blockages, leaks, or sensor malfunctions may cause the DPT to provide incorrect data, disrupting system performance and potentially leading to costly failures or safety hazards. As a result, ensuring the reliability and accuracy of DPTs is critical for maintaining system integrity.
The role of pressure sensors in DPTs is paramount for ensuring precise and consistent measurements. These sensors detect minute pressure changes and convert them into electrical signals for processing. High-quality pressure sensors improve the accuracy, responsiveness, and durability of DPTs, allowing them to perform reliably in demanding environments. Advanced pressure sensors also enable real-time monitoring, ensuring that any deviations in pressure are detected and addressed immediately, helping to prevent system failures and reduce downtime.
Unique Capabilities for DPTs
Superior Sensor Technology has two solutions for DPTs: (1) a complete sub-system; (2) differential pressure sensors. The DPT sub-system supports any custom configuration of pressure range, output configuration, bandwidth, etc. via a simple interface where you fully define and implement product features in minutes. The same platform can be used to create a full featured pressure transmitter or a simple/dedicated pressure transmitter.
Both solutions are based on the NimbleSense architecture designed to maximize performance while also being flexible to easily insert application specific capabilities. The result is an architecture with a very clear signal and practically no noise, leading to incredible accuracy, TEB and long-term stability. Specific to differential pressure transmitters, we have implemented these additional capabilities:
Multi-Range™ technology
A single sub-system can accommodate up to 32 different pressure ranges, while a single sensor can support up to eight pressure ranges
Advanced digital filtering
Multi-order filter that leverages advanced filtering capabilities at the front end to eradicate critical noise caused by fans or other sources before they can impact system performance
Integrated 50/60 Hz notch filter
Neutralizes any power grid spikes or noise coming from AC devices that could interfere with sensor accuracy or system performance
Integrated closed loop control
Eliminates the need to design an external closed loop control system, which simplifies product design and reduces loop delays by up to 100x
Superior’s NimbleSense architecture enables us to develop unique products optimized for different markets. For the DPT market, we have created the following products. Our architecture is very flexible, so we can also develop custom solutions for your application.
